Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani and Kriti Sanon: It’s Time For Some ‘Action’ For These Actresses
Up until some time ago, when we talked about action in Bollywood films, it was usually associated with male actors. We had Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar establish the legacy of action heroes while several others followed suit. In their action films, the actresses were usually either the love interest for our hero or the damsel in distress that they needed to save.

But as times changed, cinema also evolved and actresses, instead of hiding behind the actors, started taking initiative and beating up the goons on screen themselves. Be it Priyanka Chopra Jonas in Don and Don 2 or Katrina Kaif in the Tiger franchise, these women have shown that they need no saviour, they are their own hero. And following that tradition, here are some actresses who are ready to take some ‘action’ on screen soon:

Deepika Padukone

Deepika has two action-thrillers in her upcoming line up, both with director Siddharth Anand. The first of them is Pathan which will see her reunite with Shah Rukh Khan, while the other is Fighter, which will see her paired opposite Hrithik Roshan for the first time. According to reports, Deepika plays an agent in Pathan, who is sent on a mission along with Shah Rukh’s character. It’s going to be an action-packed role for the actress, for which she has been training rigorously.

Disha Patani

After showing her happy go lucky and free as a bird side to the audience in films like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Baaghi 2 and Malang, Disha is all set to try something new and show her aggressive side to the viewers. In Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain Returns, Disha is paired opposite John Abraham and the director had earlier revealed that the film will see Disha attempting some heavy-duty stunts. As per reports, her character is kind of on the lines of Rosamund Pike’s portrayal in Gone Girl.

Sanjana Sanghi

The audience saw an innocent girl in Sanjana Sanghi as she appeared as the cancer patient Kizzie Basu in Sushant Singh Rajput’s swan song, Dil Bechara. However, with just her second film, Sanjana is making a jump into the action genre opposite Aditya Roy Kapur in Ahmed Khan’s OM: The Battle Within. Talking about her character, Sanjana had said that she is someone who every Indian girl aspire to be, and to prepare for that, she underwent rigorous training before the shoot last December.

Kriti Sanon

Kriti has emerged as a powerhouse of talent in just seven years since her debut. She has shown amazing acting skills that too in films that have performed well commercially too. But now, as she reunites with her Heropanti co-star, Tiger Shroff in Vikas Bahl’s two-film series, Ganapath, Kriti is set to embark on an action journey. There are no details about her character out yet, but her first poster of the film showed her riding a dirt bike in a raw and rugged look, and Kriti had earlier said that she will explore the action genre with this film.

Kangana Ranaut

In Manikarnika, Kangana essayed the role of Rani Lakshmibai and showed her action skills as she fought with the Britishers on screen. Now, she is all set to show her aggressive side in the contemporary times with Dhaakad. The posters of the film till now have shown Kangana holding machine guns in the surrounding of carnage and destruction. The actress plays the role of Agent Agni in the film and in a tweet, she had mentioned that Agni is her depiction of Bhairavi, the Goddess of Death.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina was one of the pioneering actresses to take over the action baton from the actors as she fought terrorists and evil organisations as an ISI agent in the Tiger franchise, with Salman Khan. And now, she is all set to set another benchmark by being the first female superhero in Indian cinema in Ali Abbas Zafar’s next. The film is reportedly titled Super Soldier and Katrina will be undergoing martial arts training for the same.
